Born in Sacramento, California, 'Liu' moved from the US to New Zealand in 2007, attending Aorere College, where he played in their 1st XV in 2021.
Niuafe rise to stardom in New Zealand was recognized by his selection in the national U20s 2023, having shown great promise for his Club side in Auckland, Marist Saints.
Following a brief stint in Rugby League, Niuafe returned to Rugby 'Union' as part of the wider Moana Pasifika Wider Squad before being recruited by RFCLA at the beginning of the 2025 MLR Season.
